Stock Z Car Choke Knob Facts & Specs
June 26th To my knowledge, Nissan produced 5 different choke cable assemblies for their Datsun 240Z and 260Z models and changed the choke knob design that came with those assemblies at least 3 times, using 3 different length and thread pitch set screws (see close up photo) secure the knobs to the choke cable levers, plus added a unique manual throttle control knob design. To the left is an enlarge able comparison photo that illustrates the differences per year and model with the exception of the manual throttle control knob, which is pictured below in a photo showing a rather rare, complete NLA combo choke and throttle cable setup.
Over the years, Nissan was known to supercede older parts numbers with newer ones and sometimes supply later model style knobs as a replacement for earlier models for which OEM stock had run dry. Hopefully this page of photos and information will help those trying to correctly restore their early Z cars with correct choke knobs.

June 29th NOTE: Since publishing the photo of three knobs at top left, I have discovered more knobs in my inventory similar to middle one, which show different symbols painted in two variations. First comparison photo of all 5 side by side is at lower left under close up shot of screws. Later I will publish my best researched guess on what current and superceded Nissan parts numbers match each one. Eric Neyerlin ZPARTS has a limited stock of good quality, used choke knobs that it sells with a buff polish finish added before sale. To purchase, contact sales@zparts.com |
