Early and mid production date S30 model door glass and glass lift channels compared. Critical measurement overlay added to photo.
If you need to replace your door glass or window regulator do you think that asking a parts yard to sell you a glass for your car's production date will get you what you need? Not necessarily! This photo may help.
From 1970 through 1978, Nissan changed the design of door shells, window regulators and glass lift metal channels and matching door glass at least 3 times or more. For that reason it is very important to know your car's production date before shopping for any used door parts or window glass for any 70-78 S30 models.
However, it appears that occasionally former owners, before selling their cars, successfully transplanted a door from another production date range to their car's body to replace a damaged door and then sold the car later without informing the new buyer. Later, if new buyer needs to replace any of the parts in that door, he may discover that purchased parts to match the car's production date do not end up installing correctly. Studying the comparison photo on the left may assist those unfortunate owners when looking for a used door glass that will actually work in present door transplanted to his Z car.
Good luck. You'll need it! Enlarged photo (109k)
