Z Car Model Performance Statistics
Index
The
table above lists all the Z car models for which I believe I have unique,
published magazine performance test statistics. I have not had time yet
to determine why there are multiple listings for the same year and model
provided me with original project material, such as the multiple references
to "70 240Z" in the table, but most likely it was because Mr.
Vickrey found more than one performance test article on a particularly
popular Z car model of the day and included every one that his research
turned up. Table above has no hot links to Performance statistics pages
yet (June 9, 2004). Purpose of table is primarly to encourage owners of
well preserved, stock Z car models listed to contact me about submitting
a quality photograph or two of their cars for possible inclusion in this
and another Z car documentation display.
Project History & Introduction
In
the late 1990's I was contacted by a personal Z car website owner stating
that life's demands would no longer afford him the time to complete an
ambitious Z Car related documentaion project to assemble and publish an
extensive compilation of performance test statistics gleaned from many
years of major car magazine publications by the well known motorsport
writer, Donn Vickrey.
From
what I understood at the time, the beginnings of a modestly refined web
presentation layout and aprox 6 representative photos of stock Z cars
had already been assembled and built by this gentleman before he had to
bail from the project and remove them from his server, which was suffering
from acute lack of hard drive free space back in the days of expensive,
relatively small capacity drives of that era.
Apparently,
the project owner had first approached Carl Beck, of the IZCC, to offer
it to him to complete and publish at zhome.com, but was turned down for
reasons unclear to me. My conjecture has been that it was most likely
due to the hard work, time and digial photo preparation skills that would
have been required to complete it as a useful and and attractive web presentation.
Whatever
the case, with Mr. Vickrey's permission and blessing many years ago, I
accepted the project and was sent all the material developed to that date.
Since then, it has all sat dormant here, beggiing me to finish it until
this past week. Supported by the energy coming from numerous other projects
I have been recently working on, I have once again dusted the cobb webs
off the original material sent to me in the late 90s plus a modest amount
of preliminary web page and spread sheet work I developed long ago and
have begun to organize an index to all the performance test data that
Donn Vickery originally compiled from major magazine reviews of the past.
