Due to many requests from forum members at Hybridz.org and Z car
enthusiasts around the world, I have at last found a set of photos
sent into me last year of an interesting project showing a test
fitting of a VH45 V8 engine from a Nissan Q45 luxury car into a
240Z or Fairlady Z..
In the past
several years the idea of swapping Nissan's Q45 V8 engine into an
early Z car has intrigued many Z car customizer, but lack of project
examples or test fit specs, aftermarket performance add-ons for
the VH45 engine and added expense of such a swap most have been
deterred from trying. Maybe these photos will give others new hope.
One of the biggest
concerns about this swap is the max width of the VH45 engine measured
horizontally from |
|
outer
edges of one valve cover to the other related to maximum engine
bay opening width between the shock towers of an S30 engine bay
(240Z-260Z & 280Z all have S30 bodies and engine bay measurements)
As the photos show, it will fit, but barely.
Note: The VH45 has a baby brother in
Japan named VH41 that is rumored to be 1.5" less wide. Photos
of that engine may appear here later.
