1972 240Z For Sale (updated July 20, 2010)
Now available for inspection and purchase in Roseburg, Oregon, this 72 240Z "Hot Rod" project is currently setup with a very solid running condition L26 engine and 5 speed transmission. Carburetors, exhaust & super wide slot mag wheel set have been removed, but most are available to purchase in a package deal with car as if is now. See variable pricing listed at bottom of this ad.
NOTE on Restoration Potential: Due to rear wheel arch edges being cut and trimmed prior to installation of riveted on wide wheel flares, this body would not be the best candidate to be restored to original OEM specs. It's possible to do, but I personally feel this car is best suited to be finished off as a vintage Z car "hot rod" or racing project with rear flares left on as part of it's aggressive performance look.
Running condition of engine appears to be excellent. Starts right up and revs impressively. All cylinders compression test between 175 -180 psi which is very high for a used engine. May have a performance cam in it also, but not yet verified. When run with original Flowmaster exhaust system (now sold) the sound was absolutely "awesome". Most that heard it thought the car had a large V8 engine in it.
Body Condition: Car has 280Z style urethane air dam (no lower corner 240Z turn signal light cut outs), new Jim Cook Racing extra wide rear flares riveted on, but not bondo'd to body, to accommodate extra wide, 15x10 slot wheels on rear. Matching design, very wide front slot design wheels are 14x8 and fit up under stock fenders perfectly. See larger photo. Car is set up with performance lowering springs, appears to have good shocks and has a very cool looking, lowered, ride "stance". See top AD photo.
WHEEL NOTE: Extra large, vintage slot racing wheels shown on car have been SOLD. Pricing on car without slot wheels has been adjusted.
Body has some surface rust in floor pans and lower rocker areas near rear wheels, but not to the point of concern related to body integrity or performance and handling potential. Hood tip has some damage and will need to be replaced before a paint job. Fenders are straight with modest rust bubbling in typical lower areas plus wavy indents on top of drivers side fender. Original bumpers are straight with minimum dents and are in quite good condition overall for being 35 years old. Other small dents and dings here and there. Rear hatch is in very good condition with no dents or hinge damage. Shelf area above tail lights, where hatch latches, has numerous rust through areas as is typical of older 240Z car bodies.
Interior originally was cream white, but rear quarter and tail light panels have been changed to black with intent to change entire interior to black paneling. All interior panels, white and black, are in decent to very good condition. Original white seat covers are torn, but not badly. Driver seat mounting brace needs minor repair. Console is cracked across central area, but should be repairable using specially formulated IPS "Weld-On # 4 acrylic plastic cement. Dash has typical cracks. All gauges and heater controls are intact, but not yet tested. Ignition lock rear switch works fine, but key lock housing is damaged and will need to be replaced. Hood release handle is broken off. I have a good hood release cable that I can include with the car.
